Vincent-Pope Tutoring, LLC is delighted to announce that Aleah Abernathy, a Certified Teacher with 9 years of teaching experience, including 6 years in the North Carolina public school system, has recently joined the team of Vincent-Pope Tutoring, LLC instructors as Director of Elementary & Middle School Science.
Aleah graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, with an emphasis in Biology, prior to obtaining her Teaching Licensure from North Carolina State University, with a G.P.A. of 4.
Since 2009, Aleah has led and directed students in multiple Science-based events as part of the North Carolina Science Olympiad, a rigorous academic interscholastic competition that consists of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Technology. Aleah has successfully led students to 2nd place in the District Competition and qualification for the State Competition.
As a result of Aleah’s considerable experience as a Teacher in the North Carolina public school system, she is very familiar with the requirements of the state curriculum and the Science End-of-Grade Test.
Aleah also has experience teaching in Montessori Schools, where she developed a Science-based curriculum for children 3 - 12 years old, educated children in a variety of environmental issues, and emphasized hands-on experience in an outdoor environment.
Aleah’s prior experience also includes working as a Nature Instructor in the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department in North Carolina, where she taught children of all ages about the importance of nature, created and implemented lessons for the after-school program, and handled live animals during presentations.
In addition, Aleah gained valuable experience doing volunteer work in the Department of Education of the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Kure Beach, North Carolina, where she conducted daily educational programs including Dive Presentations and Creature Features, introduced a Junior Volunteer Program with specific guidelines for young volunteers, taught lessons about aquatic animals at the Touch Tank, supervised lab experiments in the Children’s Discovery Room, and answered questions at Smart Cart locations.
Aleah has likewise worked as a volunteer in the Department of Aquariology of the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, where she prepared food for and fed the fish, turtles, sharks, and alligators, cleaned the tanks, bags and skimmers to ensure biological stability, and monitored and adjusted the salinity and density of the water.
Aleah has also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, aiding in the construction of a house.
Aleah’s tutoring at Vincent-Pope Tutoring, LLC includes Science Classes for students of all ages, with a focus on Middle School and Pre-School Science subjects, and AP Environmental Science.
